Synopsis
Fernando, film director, travels to the village in front of the sea, where he spent his adolescence, to acomplish with the ritual that shares since then with his friend Anibal, journalist and poet: swim to a buoy that is at 500 meters of the shore. But this year Fernando has an aditional plan: makes a documentary about Anibal and his relationship with poetry and the sea. When inquiring into the like of his frind, Fernando investigate his own past as Anibal had a strong friendship Fernando´s father, Lito.
Shortly defore dying, Lito charge Anibal to drop into the sea and old buoy. Why he didn´t want to keep it? Why he did not give it to his son? Through the four seassons, and the change of the city, the buoy unites the friends, but at the same time represents to Fernando a family enigma.
Director's bio
Fernando Spiner graduated at Centro Sperimentale Di Cinematografía de Cinecitta, Rome, Italy.
His first feature film was “La Sonámbula” (Sleep Walker) in 1998, written together with writer Ricardo Piglia and fellow director Fabian Bielinsky. It had its world premier in the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and was part of the official selection for San Sebastian International Film Festival. It won awards in La Habana, Toulouse and Nantes among other festivals.
His film “Adiós Querida Luna”(Goodbye Dear Moon) (2004) won the award for best actor given to Alejandro Urdapilleta in the International Mar del Plata Film Festival. His film, “Aballay, el hombre sin miedo” (Aballay, The Man Without Fear/ Six Shooters) (2011), is a ‘Gaucho’ western based on the story "Aballay" by the Argentine author Antonio Di Benedetto. It obtained 11 international awards, 3 Premios Cóndor (Condor Awards) from the Argentine Association of Critics, 8 ""Premios Sur"" (South Awards) from the Argentine Film Academy, including “Best Director”. It was also selected to represent Argentina at the Oscars, as best foreign film. In 2013 and 2014 he was the Artistic Director of the Mar del Plata International Film Festival. In 2018 he released his most personal film, “La Boya”, (The Buoy) with an excellent response from critics and public alike. In 2021 he premiere his science fiction film "Immortal".
